Warming Up AFTER Rain Delays
You know the situation. It rains during a tournament, leaving the organizers to catch up. There are certainly no courts available for warming up so what do you do? Try playing a couple of shadow games in the parking lot. Do everything, including between point rituals. If this sounds a bit strange, consider that the late great Lew Hoad was famous for it.
Ever Get Sore?
On fitness after 35, Jimmy Connors has said, "After 35, it's not a question of whether or not you are sore,it's only a question of where!" Always stretch, but equally important is movement through ranges of motion you will use on-court. Studies show that players who raise their core body temperature by only one degree decrease their risk of injury by 90%
Doubles Movement
The next time you are playing doubles, concentrate on your movement. If you watch good doubles, the players are constantly moving even when not involved in the shot. There is always a better spot to be in. Move forward when possible. Remember, doubles is won at the net!
